Chaser

UT students venture into their second NanoSat competition with ARTEMIS, the successor to FASTRAC. ARTEMIS will leverage the navigation capability developed on FASTRAC to enable a rendezvous and on-orbit inspection mission.

Two small satellites will separate in orbit and drift apart to approximately three kilometers. The control system aboard the chaser satellite will utilize thrusters to maneuver the chaser back to the target satellite within 5 meters. A successful rendezvous mission, among many things, will yield downlinked images of the target satellite to the ground station.

The ARTEMIS mission will demonstrate:

  • Rapid-response
  • Controlled Formation flying
  • Autonomous Rendezvous Capability

  • On-orbit Inspection
  • Modular design capability
  • Low-cost low-power systems
